Well, I'm back from our little trip upstate to the redwood forest. We visited little towns, mostly Arcata & Eureka, which is where Joe went to college 20 years ago. I will have several different posts for you over the next few weeks. Everything from Arcata to purple houses.....farmers markets to victorian architecture.
My reason for traveling north was to visit the redwoods. I was chasing a memory from my childhood. A glimpse of a moment in my childhood that still rolls around in my head. It was just a highway, the trees, a certain song playing, the light a particular shade. I didn't find the stretch of highway from my memory, but just being in the dark of the trees made the trip wonderful.
We pulled over a lot. We took pictures, smelled the air, looked around, and here is one of our van next to a redwood tree...check out the size of that trunk.
So, I have this Bigfoot thing. I like him. I love the whole idea of Bigfoot, and when I saw this roadside shoppe, I had to stop.
And then I finally made it to the Paul Bunyan statue at The Trees of Mystery attraction. It's just 15 miles south of the Oregon boarded. The last time I was here, I was about 12. Needless to say I was happy.
And I had to shop a little.....
Since we are artists, we had to search the antique stores and junk shoppes for treasure and stuff we could use in art. There was so much that we wanted to buy, but only so much we could buy. In the more touristy places, the prices ere too high, but we did find some treasures. Here is a look at what we got:
There will be more soon. Hope you all have been well.

So peaceful under the canopy of those trees. Ahhh..I like you "hauls" - what fun! Welcome back, you guys. BTW Paul - did you notice that you spelled "college" "collage"? Hmmm...what does that tell you? :-)

Glad you're back.
When you stopped the car in the redwoods, wasn't it so quiet, that you've never heard that quietness anywhere else in the world? We love it so much up there. We always got really good deals in the thrift shops there. In Arcata, there is a thrift shop who takes in stray cats and kittens. You can go into the nursery, and play with the kittens, while your spouse shops. On the same street, is a house with a tree in front adorned with hundreds of wooden buoys. I have a picture of it, somewhere. Well, we're having a yard sale on the 18th of Sept., so if you guys want to come over the Friday before, it's ok.
